Give Photos A Funny Makeover In Facebook, Picasa & Flickr With Coolpic

There’s no argument about Adobe Photoshop being the best photo-editing software around but quite frankly, this feature-laden behemoth of a photo editor is also one of the most difficult to learn and use, and it doesn’t come cheap either. For most folks, however, Photoshop isn’t even a necessary tool. Provided you’re not a professional artist, designer or photographer, you don’t need such a complex and comprehensive program for basic photo tweaking. If you just want to do some casual editing, there are many third-party freeware tools available on the internet. Today, we’re going to take a look at a browser-based photo editor called Coolpic. The app is designed to give your Facebook, Picasa and Flickr photos a quick makeover by adding funny props and speech bubbles. It supports all major web browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer.


You wouldn’t want to take Coolpic for a serious stress test, as it’s rather a tool for basic, fun-filled photo editor for things like resharing your friends’ already snapped portraits with a pinch of humor added by you. For instance, you can simply overlay props like hats, mustaches, goatees etc. on images and share them on your Facebook timeline. To get started, visit Coolpic’s website via the link at the end of this post and download the extension to your web browser.

Upon installation, Coolpic automatically launches the Facebook sign in page. You need to sign in and connect your Facebook account with the app in order to use it. Simply provide your login details and grant the app the appropriate permissions when asked.

Once installed, Coolpic is pretty easy to use. As you’re viewing your photos on one of the supported social media sites, a small green dock appears to the left of the image. You can click this dock to open up the Coolpic editor.

The vertical menu along the left contains different props such as headgear, facial hair, eye wear, speech and other props, that you can add on to your images. Once added, you can resize and reposition them as you wish. Some props can also be rotated or flipped. To remove a prop, simply click it and hit Delete.

Speech bubbles can also be overlaid with custom text. However, Coolpic doesn’t let you resize or change the text font. Once done with your editing click ‘Save your work’ at the bottom-left to store and share the edited version on your Timeline.

Coolpic also supports editing your Flickr and Picasa pictures in a similar fashion. Testing of the app was carried out on Windows 8 Pro, 64-bit using Google Chrome.
